Religious Faith Statement
I am committed to honoring Jesus Christ and glorifying God, remaining flexible and responsive to the Holy Spirit in all that I am called to be and do. I am committed to Biblical truths and to excellence and unity in the delivery of my services.

I acknowledge the complexity of humans as physical, social, psychological, and spiritual beings. The ultimate goal of counseling under the direction of my conservative Catholic Christian faith is to help others move toward personal wholeness, interpersonal competence, mental stability, and spiritual maturity. Some interventions may include Christian components; however, I respect your autonomy in choosing whether to participate and remain sensitive to your wishes.

As a practicing conservative Catholic Christian, my faith informs and guides every aspect of my life, including my professional services in consultation and counseling. I affirm my commitment to uphold the principles of my faith while diligently serving clients with integrity and respect.

Disclaimer on Religious Freedom and Professional Boundaries
Untangled Mind, Piper Harris, will not tolerate deliberate or purposeful attempts to use counseling or consultation services as a means to undermine or attack the conservative Catholic Christian faith, including demanded affirmation of beliefs contrary to that faith. All interactions with clients are expected to be carried out respectfully and in good faith, with the intent of engaging sincerely in the services provided.

In accordance with the protections granted by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, I stand firmly by my right to the free exercise of religion and speech. I will continue to respect the rights of others to hold their own beliefs and ask for the same courtesy in return. By engaging in services with Untangled Mind, clients acknowledge their understanding of this foundational aspect of the practice and agree to uphold a respectful, professional therapeutic environment.

My practice is open to individuals of all faiths and beliefs, provided that their intention in seeking services aligns with the principles of respect, understanding, and the spirit of pursuing help consistent with Untangled Mind’s core focus of anxiety and trauma counseling.

Foundational Orientation
A Faith-Driven Psychophilosophical Framework
Untangled Mind is grounded in a psychophilosophical understanding of the human being that values depth, responsibility, and meaning alongside emotional awareness. Our approach moves beyond one-dimensional or emotion-only models of care to support thoughtful, structured change. The practice is informed by a view of human nature that holds together reason, emotion, will, and personal responsibility. Therapy is structured to support thoughtful choice, skill development, and meaningful change rather than emotional relief albility, and meaning, while remaining firmly anchored in evidence-based cognitive behavioral science.

At its core, Untangled Mind operates from the conviction that human suffering is not best understood solely as pathology to be managed or feelings to be validated, but as an experience that must be interpreted, integrated, and acted upon with clarity and purpose. Psychological distress is real and deserving of compassion; however, compassion without structure, truth, or direction ultimately fails the individual it seeks to help.

The Human Being
Untangled Mind understands the human being as more than a constellation of symptoms, neurochemical processes, or emotional states. Clients are regarded as rational and moral agents, capable of reflection, choice, growth, and responsibility. Whose thoughts, behaviors, and values meaningfully shape their experience of the world.
Emotion is treated as information, not authority. Feelings are neither dismissed nor elevated to the status of fact. They are examined, contextualized, and integrated through disciplined cognitive and behavioral work. This stance stands in contrast to contemporary therapeutic trends that prioritize emotional expression without equal emphasis on interpretation, agency, or action.

Reason, Meaning, and Change
This practice is rooted in the belief that psychological health is inseparable from meaning. Human beings suffer not only because of what has occurred, but because of how events are understood, remembered, and carried forward. Untangled Mind emphasizes the restoration of clear thinking, accurate self-appraisal, and values-aligned action as central mechanisms of change.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy provides the methodological backbone of this work. Its emphasis on thought evaluation, behavioral experimentation, and measurable outcomes aligns with a philosophically realist understanding of truth: that beliefs can be examined, assumptions tested, and progress observed.

Faith as Grounding Truth
Untangled Mind is explicitly informed by a Christian understanding of the human being while remaining clinically ethical and respectful of client autonomy. Faith is not used solely as a therapeutic technique, intervention, or emotional soothing mechanism. Rather, it functions as the grounding framework through which dignity, suffering, responsibility, and hope are understood.

Psychological methods are not substitutes for meaning, nor is faith merely an emotional support or coping strategy. Faith is understood as a source of truth about the human being and the moral order, providing orientation, purpose, and hope. Reason serves to clarify thought and discern action, while therapy functions as a practical means of restoring agency, resilience, and responsible engagement with life.

Clients are not required to share this worldview to receive care. However, the clinician does not operate from a value-neutral stance. Treatment decisions, boundaries, pacing, and expectations are shaped by this integrated understanding of human flourishing.

A Deliberate Rejection of Therapeutic Drift
Untangled Mind intentionally distances itself from modern therapeutic trends that emphasize endless processing, identity fixation, or avoidance of discomfort. While trauma and anxiety are taken seriously, they are not treated as defining identities or permanent limitations.

The practice rejects models that over-validate at the expense of change, confuse empathy with passivity, treat emotional relief as the primary outcome, or avoid challenging distorted beliefs or maladaptive patterns. Instead, Untangled Mind prioritizes clarity over catharsis, skill development over venting, responsibility alongside compassion, and forward movement over stagnation.
