TRAUMA THERAPY · MARIETTA, GA

When the past is still happening in the present.

Trauma doesn't always look like a memory you can't forget. It can show up in your body, relationships, reactions, beliefs, and the ways you've learned to protect yourself long after the threat has passed. Treatment at Untangled Mind™ is designed to understand those patterns and address them deliberately.

Confidential. Compassionate. Results-focused care.

UNDERSTANDING TRAUMA

Trauma changes more than how you feel.

Trauma can change the way your brain and nervous system interpret what is happening long after the original threat has passed. A reaction that feels irrational in the present may make considerably more sense when we understand what your system learned to anticipate, avoid, or protect against.

Those changes can affect how you think, how your body responds, what you do to feel safe, and how you connect with other people. Effective trauma treatment requires us to understand the whole pattern, not just the event that started it.

Common Signs You Might Benefit From Trauma Therapy

  • Re-experiencing painful memories, nightmares, or flashbacks

  • Intense reactions (anger, fear, panic) to reminders or triggers

  • Becoming emotionally numb, dissociated, or withdrawing socially

  • Difficulty concentrating, intrusive thoughts, or constant worry

  • Physical symptoms: insomnia, tension, GI upset, fatigue, etc.

If these sound familiar, you are not alone. Healing is possible.

How to treat trauma

Trauma treatment at Untangled Mind™ is not built around a single technique. We begin by understanding how trauma is showing up across your thoughts, behaviors, nervous system, relationships, and sense of safety, then build treatment around that clinical picture. I integrate evidence-informed cognitive and behavioral strategies with EMDR, somatic regulation, interoceptive awareness, and trauma processing when appropriate. Treatment progresses deliberately, with regular assessment helping us determine what is changing, what remains stuck, and what needs to happen next. We provide individual trauma treatment and intensives.

“Working with Untangled Mind after a car accident in Marietta helped me reclaim my life. I no longer avoid driving, and my anxiety is under control.”

“I carried childhood trauma for decades. Piper’s EMDR-based work helped me release shame and finally feel grounded.”

"I could never understand or explain myself before this. It explained me and how I feel in almost every situation.

Thank you again for what you are doing in my life. I have never felt more grateful for someone who I believe is genuinely helping me gain confidence in myself."

FAQ

Get to Know Us

How long does trauma therapy take?

Most clients at Untangled Mind experience measurable relief within 8–12 sessions for moderate trauma. Complex or long-term trauma may take longer. Every treatment plan includes monthly reassessments so you always know where you stand.

What is the difference between CBT and EMDR for trauma?

CBT works to identify and reframe the thought patterns trauma creates. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess stuck traumatic memories without requiring you to retell them in detail. At Untangled Mind, both are used together as part of an integrated treatment plan. We also utilize prolonged exposure. Same mechanism for trauma treatment and recovery.

I've never told anyone before; I'm worried about what you'll think.

Many people come to Untangled Mind™ carrying experiences they have never disclosed, including sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, exposure to violence, and other experiences associated with fear, shame, or self-blame. You decide what you share and when you share it. My role is not to judge what happened, how you responded, or how you survived it. My role is to understand its impact and help you treat what is still affecting you now.

You do not have to protect me from your story.
